Chinatown Kid

When I took my photography class last year, I felt drawn to taking photos of Asian Americans, perhaps because there is such a lack of representation of Asians in our media. While pursuing a photobook on Chinatown, I found myself with some great photos of children. Here are a couple of the most striking children I met.

Nice work! You should definitely keep up with the photography. And I think displaying an Asian American life is an awesome thing to do. Your proactive approach is an excellent way to fill in the gap that exists in pop culture.

Thank you so much! I have been trying. Sometimes it makes me self-conscious — like, oh, “you’re an Asian girl, of course you want to take photos of Asians” — but if I don’t, who will? Again, thanks Lauren! 🙂

I totally get how you feel. But that’s one of the great things about expression through art: the fact that you get to do/show/be yourself. Let ’em talk. That’s what art’s for. But don’t let them change your decision. YOU are the artist. Not them.
